DEXA speaks louder than scales.

Weight is just one part of the equation, body composition is the rest. DexaFit DXA scan is the gold standard to know your lean muscle mass, fat mass and bone density.

Get answers. Not estimates.

Dual-energy absorptiometry (DEXA or DXA) is the most accurate way to know your body. It is trusted as the gold standard for body composition analysis by medicine and science.

FDA-approved

DEXA is FDA-approved and quantifies your body composition and skeletal health, including your visceral fat, which correlates to common heart and metabolic diseases.

Precise

A DEXA scan is simple to do, and it is significantly more precise than other methods (including BMI, InBody, BIA, BodPod, and hydrostatic weighing).

Know your body

Map and pinpoint exactly where you’re storing lean mass and fat mass, including visceral fat, each region of your body.

Learn your bone density to prevent premature osteoporosis.

Track your body's specific physiological response to your diet or fitness plan.

Why DEXA?

I learned more in 20 minutes at DexaFit than I have in 20 years from my doctor. Archipelago even reduced my life insurance premium after seeing my results!

Common alternative methods, such as BMI, Bioimpedance, Bod Pod, and hydrostatic weighing, are often used incorrectly as an alternative for body composition health.

But they can be dangerously misleading.

Alternative methods can have a margin of error that range from 5 to 15%.

DEXA scan’s accuracy and precision ranges from a 1 to 2% margin of error, and provides additional information that BMI and alternative testing methods cannot, including:

  • Visceral Adipose Tissue (VAT), which is leading predictor of longevity, metabolic syndrome, and cardiovascular disease.

  • Skeletal strength, your risk for osteoporosis, and how you compare to others like you.

  • Muscle symmetry to identify how your lean, fat, and bone mass compares in each region of your body.

  • “Skinny fat” and sarcopenia risks, which has been found to be an important predictor of cognitive performance.

How long does a DXA scan take?

The DXA scan is incredibly simple and efficient. You will only have to lie still on the scanning table for six to eight minutes. Once the scan is complete, your results will be available immediately.

What do I have to do before my visit?

The most important thing to note is we’re appointment only, so please make sure you schedule online or via our mobile app!

On the day of your visit, remember to wear comfortable clothes (no metal), and make sure you’re not dehydrated or over-hydrated. We recommend fasting for two hours before your appointment.

If you’re planning to do a 3D body scan the same day, wear compression shorts or tight boxers (guys) or tight leggings and a sports bra (ladies). Please also remember to download our Fit app prior to your visit.

How is my body score calculated, and what does it mean?

Because body fat and BMI alone are poor indicators of health, we developed the body score metric. Based on an algorithm that utilizes data points collected from the DXA scan, including your body fat, lean mass, skeletal health, ad visceral fat, your body score is a simple way to track the health of your body composition distribution. Similar to your grade school report card, your body score is a letter grade.

What is visceral fat (VAT), and how is it different than subcutaneous fat (Sub-Q)?

Unlike subcutaneous fat, which has the primary function of being a depot of stored energy, visceral fat is far more nefarious. It is found within the envelope formed by the abdominal muscles, and it can infiltrate organs; thus, disrupting their function. VAT cells are dangerous and pathogenic because they are metabolically active; the cells release inflammatory proteins that are highly correlated with risk factors for heart disease (such as elevated blood sugar, triglycerides, and cholesterol).
